National Republican Congressional Committee Hosts Live “Mobile-Chat” for Presidential State of the Union Address on Jan. 27

Americans Urged to Participate in First Nationwide Real-Time Chat on Policies Affecting Americans
WASHINGTON -- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) will engage the American public with a live mobile chat during President Obama’s State of the Union address on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, beginning 9 p.m. ET. This program – the first of its kind – will be hosted by the NRCC and will allow Americans to have a real-time discussion with high-profile Republicans and other concerned citizens about the policies that, if enacted, will affect them.
Using a technology called “Text2Chat”, consumers will text the keyword “UNION” to the short code 777218. After opting-in, members will receive a text message that reads: “Thank you for participating in NRCC’s State of the Union Text Chat. Look here on Wednesday 1/27 for the link to participate”. Any mobile phone user with an internet-enabled device, on any network, will be able to access the mobile chat rooms.
“The Text2Chat program permits people across the U.S. to get involved and have their opinions heard,” explained John Randall, eCampaign director of the NRCC, Washington. “It provides an opportunity for Americans across the country to talk and receive feedback about the pressing matters facing our country. We are interested in hearing what Americans are thinking across the country—not just telling them what we think they should hear.
